7 Simple Faith Habits for Midlife Moms

Do you ever feel like living for Jesus seems COMPLICATED in this midlife season? Between teaching your teen to drive, learning to let go of your young adult children, and managing your home, you feel you have no time left for your faith. Here are seven simple faith habits for midlife moms – one for each day of the week. These can help reestablish your relationship with Jesus while fitting into your already busy life as a midlife mom.

As your children grow more independent and your role shifts, it’s the PERFECT time to rediscover your relationship with Jesus – without needing three hours of free time or superhuman discipline!

Simple Faith Habit #1: Start with Stillness

“Be still and know that I am God” – Psalm 46:10

In our rush-rush world (especially when you’re still managing everyone’s schedules!), stillness has become a radical act of faith. Here’s your Monday mission:

  • 5 minutes of quiet prayer
  • Just you and Jesus
  • No phone, no distractions

This isn’t about elaborate prayers or having the perfect quiet time setup. It’s simply about pausing to invite Jesus into your day before diving into another week of teen drama, young adult decisions, and household responsibilities.

TIP: Even with a house full of people, you can find 5 minutes! Try sitting in your car before going inside after errands, or wake up just 5 minutes before everyone else. Stillness is a practice that gets easier with time!

Simple Faith Habit #2: Prayer Rhythm

“Pray without ceasing” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Prayer doesn’t have to be a one-and-done morning event. As you transition through this season of letting go, try establishing these simple prayer rhythms:

  • Morning coffee prayers
  • Lunchtime check-in
  • Evening gratitude

Think of these as spiritual pit stops throughout your day. They don’t need to be lengthy – just brief moments to reconnect with your heavenly Father as you navigate this changing season.

TIP: Set alarms on your phone with gentle labels like “God check-in” or place sticky notes where you’ll see them at key times during your daily routine.

Simple Faith Habit #3: Word Before World

“Your word is a lamp to my feet” – Psalm 119:105

Let God’s voice be the first influence on your Wednesday, before the voices of your teens, young adults, spouse, or boss:

  • Read a few verses of Scripture
  • Journal one takeaway
  • Apply it to your day

Notice we’re talking a few verses, not an entire book. ONE takeaway, not a complex analysis. You’re not studying for a Bible college exam – you’re collecting daily bread for this season of transition!

TIP: Choose a gospel if you’re not sure where to start (the Gospel of John is perfect). Or try Proverbs for practical wisdom as you guide older children while giving them space to grow.

Simple Faith Habit #4: Community Care

“Bear one another’s burdens” – Galatians 6:2

Faith was never meant to be done on your own – especially during this season of letting go. On Thursdays, focus outward:

  • Send an encouraging text
  • Share a Bible verse with someone
  • Pray for a friend

These simple acts take minutes but create ripples of kingdom impact. They also get your eyes off your own transition challenges and onto serving others.

TIP: Connect with women in similar life stages. Their understanding of what you’re going through is invaluable, and your shared experiences create deeper bonds.

Simple Faith Habit #5: Worship Focus

“Make melody in your heart to the Lord” – Ephesians 5:19

Turn Friday’s tasks into worship opportunities while managing a household with teens and young adults:

  • Create a worship playlist
  • Play it during routine tasks
  • Sing praise while working

There’s something powerful about declaring God’s goodness as we close out the week. Worship reframes our perspective and reminds us who we’re really working for – even when family life feels chaotic.

TIP: Make different playlists for different moods – one for when you need encouragement during tough parenting moments, one for gratitude when you see your children maturing, one for high-energy cleaning times!

Simple Faith Habit #6: Scripture Memory

“Hide Your word in my heart” – Psalm 119:11

Scripture memory isn’t just for Sunday School kids:

  • Choose one verse
  • Write it everywhere
  • Meditate on its truth throughout the day

When we carry God’s Word with us in our minds, we have access to His wisdom during those tough parenting conversations and emotional moments of letting go.

TIP: Write your verse on a notecard for your car visor (for all those weekend activity drives!), make it your phone wallpaper, and set it as a recurring reminder. Repetition throughout the day is key!

Simple Faith Habit #7: Sabbath Rest

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy” – Exodus 20:8

End your week by embracing God’s gift of rest – perhaps the hardest discipline for busy moms:

  • Intentionally slow down
  • Enjoy worship with others
  • Unplug from unnecessary work
  • Reflect on God’s faithfulness

Sunday isn’t just about church attendance – it’s about embracing a rhythm of rest that acknowledges our limitations and God’s sufficiency, even as we navigate the emotional journey of watching our children grow up.

TIP: Prepare for Sabbath by handling necessary tasks ahead of time. Consider what truly constitutes “necessary work” for your family, and what can wait until Monday. Your teenagers are old enough to pitch in!

Small Habits, Big Impact

Sweet friend, these aren’t complicated spiritual practices. They don’t require special equipment, extensive training, or hours away from your family responsibilities. They simply require intention during this beautiful (but challenging!) season of transition.

The beauty is that you don’t have to implement all seven at once! Start with just ONE day’s habit. Practice it for a few weeks until it becomes second nature, then add another.

Remember, spiritual growth isn’t about perfection – it’s about direction. Each small step toward Jesus compounds over time into a transformed life, even as your role as a mom transforms too.

Which of these seven habits resonates most with you right now in your midlife season? I’d love to hear which one you’re planning to start with!
