Hello, sisters in Christ!
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the thought of reading the Bible? With our busy schedules and countless distractions, it can be challenging to make Bible reading a meaningful part of our daily routine. But guess what? With some intentionality, you can transform your Bible reading from a daily task into a deeply enriching time with the Lord. Following are four practical ways to make your Bible reading more intentional.
Finding the right time block to read your Bible is crucial. I say time block because things come up in real life, and setting a block of time allows some wriggle room while still staying consistent. For some, early mornings are perfect because they are quiet and can start the day with a positive mindset. For others, evenings might be better after the day’s responsibilities are done. The key is to pick a time block when you are more likely to focus.
Personal Story: I struggled to find the right time and routine for my Bible reading. I always focused on an exact time, and when I didn’t make it, I would skip out on my Bible time; this left me feeling like I was on a hamster wheel that I could never get off of. Eventually, I found time blocking that helped and started building a routine to support this time block. It became my peaceful time to reflect and connect with Jesus.
A structured Bible study can provide guidance and depth to your reading. Please be sure to look for studies that include questions to ponder and reflect on because this approach helps transform your Bible reading and helps you better understand the scripture.
Example: My guide, Digging Deep into God’s Word, is designed to support you on this journey, helping you meditate on Scripture and then reflect on how to apply it to your life. Additionally, there are questions to help you think deeper, which helped me see the Bible in a new light.
Commitment is essential for any habit to stick. Decide how many days a week you want to read your Bible and stick to it. Being committed truly does transform your Bible reading. Even if you miss a day, don’t get discouraged. You can just pick up where you left off. Remember, God loves you and wants to spend time with you. He knows your heart and wants to help you; don’t let the enemy dictate your relationship with God.
Tip: Set reminders on your phone or keep a journal of your readings. In that case, you can track your progress and stay motivated. In time, this practice will become a natural part of your daily routine. π±
Habit stacking is a powerful technique for pairing a new habit with an existing one. In fact, you can create a seamless and sustainable routine by linking your Bible reading to a habit you already do consistently. Check out this REEL, where I share a few ideas!
Personal Story: I love starting my day with a cup of tea. I decided to stack my Bible reading habit with my morning tea time. I keep my Bible and journal beside my bed and set out my tea supplies on the counter the night before. It’s a sweet time sipping my tea and spending that quality time at the Lord’s feet, learning from Him. π΅π
β¨ In short, incorporating these four tips into your Bible reading can make a significant difference. So, by choosing a suitable time, finding a structured study, and being committed, you’ll find your Bible reading time to be more intentional and spiritually enriching.
